Student Service Center, Community College of Allegheny County

Community College of Allegheny County

Allegheny Campus

This project consisted of a multi-purpose, 52,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing campus facility. This architecturally pleasant structure is a multi-level steel frame with a brick, panel, and glass exterior.

The new facility includes a 300-seat auditorium/theater, cafeteria, student lounge, classrooms, and administrative facilities. It is connected to the existing building via a small pedestrian bridge.

Tri-State Design provided structural and foundation engineering services consisting of a multi-level steel frame, concrete foundation on rock bearing, and concrete and Ivony block retaining walls.

Community College of Allegheny County

South Campus

This project consisted of construction of an approximately 35,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing facility, consisting of a library, new computer center, learning assistance center, media center, and allied health and nursing labs. Tri-State Design provided structural and foundation engineering services for the project.

The facility was constructed adjoining the existing buildings, with cast-in-place concrete walls resting on deep caisson foundations. The new building was made integral to the adjacent building by creating openings into the existing concrete walls.

We were also responsible for shop drawing review and approval, and trouble-shooting services during construction.

Community College of Allegheny County
South Campus

This project consisted of construction of a new multi-level, multi-purpose facility to include a community education center, fitness center, industry center, continuing education offices, exercise/aerobic room, and a 1,200-seat gymnasium, including showers, lockers and classroom facilities. This consisted of a total of approximately 40,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing college campus. Tri-State Design provided structural and foundation engineering design services for the facility.

This new facility was constructed over the existing boiler room, which is partially underground. The new building is connected to the existing facility using two levels of 30' wide bridge, which serves as classrooms, as well as a corridor. Due to the hilly terrain of the site, foundation configuration for different levels was designed to minimize the excavation and underground construction. Some of the partially exposed basement walls are designed using Ivony block construction, while other foundation was constructed on a grade beam/footing supported by deep caissons. The main frame consisted of a multi-level steel structure with a glass/concrete panel exterior.

Tri-State also performed construction phase services, which included shop drawing review and approval, and trouble-shooting during construction.
