Construction Management & Inspection
Tri-State Design and Development’s team of professionals has the construction management and inspection staff to carry out the clients’ needs on the larger more complex projects as well as smaller projects with the same amount of importance and integrity that the owners require in today’s market.
Our trained and experienced inspectors are committed to fulfilling the needs of our clients throughout all phases of construction to ensure the details to quality are achieved by a thorough understanding of the owner’s requirements, procedures, specifications, and conformance to the quality assurance and quality control plans, as well as being fully aware of the necessary safety needed throughout the life of the project in order to make it a success. As a member of the CM team, we also provide interim and final design reviews, constructability reviews, and value engineering as needed.
Mon-Fayette Turnpike, Uniontown to Brownsville, SR 0043, Phase II, Fayette County, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission
This project consisted of approximately 2.5 miles of a new 4-lane concrete highway, along with the construction of two new major bridges; one being a concrete cast in place segmental bridge over the Monongahela River. As a member of the CM Team, Tri-State performed a variety of construction inspection and documentation services for the construction of the project to include inspection of the bridges and drainage structures, concrete paving of the 4-lane mainline roadway, ramps and interchanges. Project assignments included roadway embankments sub-grade, sub-base construction, drainage system, concrete and asphalt pavement, guide rails, and other related services. The bridge construction inspection services included pile driving, substructure and superstructure construction and other related services. Tri-State Design’s Safety Inspector conducted daily project safety inspection and monitoring.
Our scope of CM services also included 60%, 90%, and 100% design services of electrical and mechanical system designs for the new maintenance facility. We also performed construction inspection of the new maintenance facility.
The project was opened to traffic in August 2012, at an approximate cost of $200 million.
Point Marion Bridge, SR 0088, Sec. A10, Green County, PennDOT District 12-0
The project consisted of 1500’ of roadway and approaches, 5 approach spans with an 810-ft. main span bridge crossing over the Monongahela River. The existing bridge remained in operation while the new bridge was being constructed. The existing bridge was demolished after opening the new bridge to traffic. Cofferdams were constructed during work on the river footings and piers and sheet piles for retaining walls. Tri-State performed structural inspection of the new bridge, including substructure, and superstructure, encompassing railings, guide rails, and concrete deck placement, adjoining roadway, utility relocations, and painting operations. We also performed office documentation and CDS systems operations. Construction cost was $21 million.
Homestead Grays Bridge Rehabilitation, Allegheny County Department of Public Works
Project structure is a 3000’ bridge crossing the Monongahela River and carries 40,000-plus motorists a day and is adjacent to the Waterfront Business District; a commercial market place built on the former site of U.S. Steel's Homestead Works. This $36 million deck truss bridge renovation project involved replacing and widening the bridge's deck, bearing repairs, replacing sidewalks, and adding a new PA bridge pedestrian/traffic barrier. The bridge elevation and curvature were changed to make it a smoother ride. Tri-State Design and Development performed construction inspection for this spandrel-braced deck arch bridge consisting of structural and concrete items, i.e.: fabricated steel with various modifications, expansion dam installations, rivet replacements, drainage, and concrete deck replacement, navigation lighting access, welding inspection, and traffic safety features while maintaining traffic flow during construction phases of the contract. The project was a major undertaking involving detailed planning and coordination with businesses and local officials.
